When my wife and I first arrived in Alabama, she talked me into “sightseeing” at Alligator Alley in Summerdale. I wasn’t aware that there were over 150 live alligators at this park. Being from Minnesota, I’d never been that close to 1 alligator – let alone 150! After walking around for quite a while, chatting with the staff, and watching a feeding, one of the workers asked me if I wanted to hold a baby (4-foot gator). I said “NO WAY!”. I was still a little apprehensive. I decided to complete Gator Done to get over my apprehension of the reptile. My wife will tell you I lived at Alligator Alley for months studying the gators, but really I was only there three to four hours every day. Did you know – alligators have hurricane sensors along their jaw lines?! After I completed the work, I showed it to the owner, and he was amazed how accurate it was – including the hurricane sensors. I’m still apprehensive when gators are in the wild, but feel right at home at Alligator Alley – where they’re behind big fences. This picture took almost 3 months to complete – the original is 2 feet by 3 feet.
