Todd Alan was born in Northern Minnesota in the early 1960s, and it was evident almost from birth that he was interested in art. From the very beginning, you could find him coloring in coloring books, doodling on his homework, or scribbling chalk on the driveway. This love of art eventually flourished when on his 18th birthday, his parents arranged for him to sit with a family friend, Don Marco, who creates fine art using Crayola Crayons. This experience inspired Todd.
After high school, Todd dabbled in tempera paints – painting windows for the Holidays. He also used oil paints on canvas, where he received a Creative Arts award presented by the Veteran’s Affairs in St. Cloud, MN in the early 1990s. All the while, Todd continued his peaceful past time of creating art with crayons.
In 2006, Todd and his family moved to Southern Alabama to use the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding landscapes and culture to draw further inspiration for the crayon art. It was in Alabama, that Todd’s first print, “Plumeria” was released. Since then, Todd has created numerous masterpieces, and has showed no signs of stopping or slowing down.
Todd enjoys listening to all sorts of music while he’s working – including Jimmy Buffett, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Billy Idol, and tropical steel drums.
Todd encourages people to “color outside of the lines. You never know where it will take you.”
